Define One talks about his new album ‘Self’

With only 23 years the Bulgarian producer already released more than 20 EPS, two full length albums and raised his own label 'Hole'. Define One resides in Sofia, where he shapes the Bulgarian music scene. His sound moves in a wide spectrum of Minimal, Dubstep and Electronica while he's open for new realms. Additionally he himself is responsible for the artworks and videos. His new album 'Self' is dedicated to dark Electronica combined with Hip Hop Beats and organic instruments. With guitars, synths and percussions he suceeds in creating a mystic atmosphere, also combined with singer songwriter skills that come to the fore in a few tracks. Define One took some time to talk about three tracks of 'Self':
Love & Other Agonies
This one was actually one of the first tracks I wrote for the Define One project. It all started just with the beat and the bass line. Slowly I came up with the melody for the guitar hook and ended up recording it. I kept working on the track, and somehow I knew that something was still missing from the picture. That's why I was playing around with different synths and melodies, until I recorded the a bit trancy main melody which somehow became the landmark of the Define One project.
Gone Today
I love ambient music. When I started the album, I wanted to make an album filled with huge beats and guitar riffs. However, I knew that I will have a few ambient tracks on it as well. The other thing I really love are the vocoders. I grew up listening to artists like Moby and Daft Punk who I believe are known for the extensive use of vocoders in their records and probably that's the main reason why I love this kind of effect so much. The other reason is that I don't like my voice, but still there are things out there, that I want to sing about. And this song is basically, me singing about one of those things, on top of an ambient melody that I recorded long time ago.
All The Solutions
This track was recorded just 3 days before the deadline. Interesting thing is that the last part, where the beat is gone for a while, was actually in the beginning at first. However in the end, I decided that it sounds much better as it is now. I was working on so many tracks for the album and then in the end, this track came out as the perfect summation of everything I went through in this record - trip hop music, electronica elements and ambient atmospheres.
