Superdefekts Dubstep Recommendation – 4

Superdefekts Dubstep Recommendation – 4

Superdefekt aka sdfkt. aka Tim Lorenz (co)hostes the famous MFOC (sunday) nights at Hamburgs finest micro club “Golden Pudel”. Clubbing since 1987 as well as Djing since 1993 he has a knowledge of about 20 years of all kinds of electronic music with a special interest in all things breakbeat, be it electro, electronica, drum’n’bass, dubstep or Bass Music.

WEDGE – Phonic / Traces – ISP006 – 21.03.2011

Proper techno affected dubstep release. Especially Traces with its deep bass waves and hypnotic melody sequences deserves some special attention. Sounds like minimal techno should – in a better world. Phonics with its ascending chord sequence is a bit more on the uplifting side of things, perfectly juxtaposed by an industrial like distorted metallic lead sequence. Me likes.

COKI – Boomba / Carbon Aliens – TEMPA055 – 21.03.2011

Coki going nuts with two excellent Dubstep/Grime hybrids. Boomba uses all the obvious ingredients, like gun shots, heavy halfstep rhythms and slaughter basses. And confronts them with a beautiful loop of a plugged strings melody. Second track Carbon Alien is more on the abstract side of things and the weaker one of the two. Solid release nevertheless.

ID & SKINNZ – Most High / No Love – EAR015 – 21.03.2011

With Most High ID and Skinnz produce some sort of working class future garage, meaning it is not very subtle, but effective nonetheless. No Love, on the other side, is some fast paced, sub bass driven dancefloor shaker, tightly produced for the heavyweight dancefloors.

JOKER – Top Of The Game EP – TERR005 – 21.03.2011

Joker is finally back and, what can I say, hasn‘t lost his teeth. It‘s mostly more of the same known medicine (with the second track, Retro Racer, with almost prog rock meets chip tunes like endless synth solos being the more outstanding one), but he still is the godfather in melting hip hop, grime and dubstep, and it shows.

JOY O – Wade In / Jels  – HF027 – 21.03.2011

Finally a new digital release by Joy Orbison (now just called Joy O) – and it was well worth the wait. Actually, more than that. Two killer tunes, whereas Wade In has all the magic of his recent vinyl only BB release: a stomping four to the floor beat, his typical magical use of the cowbell and hi hats, an intimidating melody sequence and a  short breakdown to die for. It‘s just very few elements, but sued to full effect. House music as it should be. Jels on the flip with its nearly endless intro has a bit more of an detroity electro feel to it crossed with an New York style deep house melody line, that shines through at the end of the track. Essential release, if there ever was one.

About whatpeoplesay.com

Whatpeoplesay is a blog project centering around all kinds of actual electronic and alternative music. Whatpeoplesay has been started in February 2011 by certain people from whatpeopleplay.com and wordandsound.net as a playground to share more thoughts and information about the music we love. We at Whatpeopleplay and Wordandsound are otherwise managing a downloadstore called whatpeopleplay.com and a business to business (wholesale) distribution called wordandsound.net. With both we try to serve music devotees and record shops around the world with high quality music since 1999. Feel invited to take part in this. We´re sure there´s even more to say about the music both we and you like. It´s all an open, developing process and we have, at this time, just started yet. Help us getting the word out by contributing your taste and opinion on our favorite topics. Let us know how we do, how you like what we say and if you like: tell us what you have to say.
