Review on: Taurtollo – Bounded Palm (Ad Hoc Records)
The Manchester located music cycle Ad Hoc presents their 2nd release and another warming pack of deep house. As a base for music and artists that comes out of their hometown the UK collective does not only work as a record label it also spends efforts on organizing events, running a booking agency and hosting a radio show. For their current contribution on the sites of sound carriers it is Taurtollo, who presents his debut EP called “Bounded Palm”. Rooted in house, break beat, hip hop, jazz as well as afro and latin grooves the Manc producer also enjoys to add live instrumentation to his works – a preference that likely explains the organic and moody approach on the three titles of his debut. All tunes spread smoky warmth as well as ethnic flavours reaching from percussive, afro and funk touched deep house to tricky space-jazz beats and laid-back sunshine breaks. With a tempo set to a relaxed mode from 75 to 116 bpm this EP offers a nice selection of sounds for the late-night lounges as well as relaxed floor grooving.
