THIS WEEK IN BASS – WEEK 44 / 45
Superdefekt's Roundup of the last weeks entries in Dubstep, Halfstep, Nustep & UK Garage Selection of the weeks 44 /45 with new additions by MAOK, Debian Blak, Pledge, Fybe:one and more. HVN012 - MAOK – Remixes - Hivern Discs – 23-10-2012 Three pretty astonishing remixes of MAOK tunes (whoever that may be). First we have a quite spooky ghost jazz reproduction by Kassem Mosse and Mix Mup followed by an abstract deconstruction dub by Downliners Sekt in the vein of a pretty stoned Mount Kimbie. Concluding the record ist the BNJMN remix, going for a laidback and dreamy house approach. Three times quality, you can‘t go wrong here. FW91 - Debian Blak - Hawks & Spies Remixes - First Word Records – 22-10-2012 Mak & Pasteman top this package with a breezy helium soul garage version. Next on are the 2steppy Diasonic remix and a contemporary bass version of Enough by Joss Ryan before Scrimshire fuse jazz, folk, steel drums and bass for the second highlight of this quite beautiful EP. IM014 - ReSketch - Reason For A Reason - Infinite Machine - 05-11-2012 Three post garage dancefloor smashes by ReSketch, incorporating rave pianos and vocals in a moody way, as well as groovy basses and tricky next level house rhythms. Frameworks remix tones the title track down to a trippy halfstep hop affair while Liar Herescu goes full on. L2S087 - Pledge - Coming Home - L2s Recordings – 05-11-2012 Oldskoolish 2step in a modern vein. These two tracks have it all: clever rhythms, warm basses, soothing pads and female vocals. Just beautiful. MM059 - Mordant Music - Travelogues 11 - Mordant Music - 05-11-2012 Deep and dark 10 minute epic, listening music for those gloomy hours. Call it kraut bass, if you like. Cosmic, but more in an inner-mind than outer space way. SHADES007 - Fybe:one - Harp Remix EP - Shades Of Grey Recordings – 05-11-2012 With twelve tracks it is quite an understatement to call this release an EP. And it‘s a really worthy release as well, as there are some pretty delicate remixes on it. To pick just a few: Troy Gunner‘s version of Aeolian is a deliciously tender downbeat bass track which would perfectly fit on any Apollo Records release. The mighty but highly underrated Blacksmif go for an leftfield bass music approach, dreamy and epic. And Warsnare‘s track is bass heavy experimental hop, as mind bending as it is beautiful. And these are just three tracks of this wonderful package. Highly recommended. MEDI062 - Swindle - Forest Funk EP - Deep Medi Musik - 05-11-2012 Three heavily jazz influenced halfstep tracks of the forward thinking kind. Inspiring to the brim, this is like contemporary dubstep has to sound. Not much more to say but: recommended. SHIP016 - Felix Lenferink – Forlane – Shipwrec – 30-10-2012 Something like a secret tip here. I didn‘t have Franz Lenferink on my agenda, bit from now on I definitely will. These three tracks are as clever and surprising as they are beautiful. Warm and soulful bass music of the highest order. I highly recommend to check this release out! MINDSET012 - Elsewhere - Trippin EP - Mindset Records - 29-10-2012 Bass heavy post dubstep of the very advanced kind. Next level shit, so to speak. Deeply hypnotic this is. One for the fans of Akkord and the likes. Tipped.
