THIS WEEK IN BASS – WEEK 6

Superdefekt’s Roundup of the last weeks entries in Dubstep, Halfstep, Nustep & UK Garage

Nice selection for week 4 with new releases by Boddika & Joy Orbison, Pev & Kowton, Breach & Dark Sky, ASC & more.

NONPLUS022 – Boddika & Joy Orbison – Think And Change LP Sampler 1 – 11-02-2013

The shape of things to come – two tracks as a taste for the forthcoming Nonplus Records Compilation. Boddika‘s VIP mix of Mercy by Joy Orbison and himself strips the track down to its essentials, then adds a hefty dose of hi-hat swing to create a kickin‘ chicago house homage. On the flipside Kassem Mosse presents a decent darkside techno epic in the Detroit sense. Two tracks which make the waiting for the full compilation just more dreadful.

LTECH003 – Bandshell – Caustic View – Liberation Technologies – LTECH003

After his debut on Hessle Audio Bandshell comes clear with a versatile four track EP, ranging from noise to bliss, from deepest bass workouts to dreamy electronica extravaganzas . Class A material.

HES024 – Pev & Kowton – Raw Code / Junked – Hessle Audio – 11-02-2013

Peverelist and Kowton show their magnificent skills on two deeply satisfying tracks, seamlessly morphing from swinging bass to dark sub bass techno workouts. High Quality material, a more than worthy Hessle release.

AUXTR007 – ASC – The Remix EP – Auxiliary – 18-02-2013

Futuristic, digitally shining soundtracks for the inner sense, robotic dream music, ambient music for lonesome computers. Using halfstep rhythms as well as downbeat drum‘n‘bass antics this music paints a picture of the melancholic beauty of outer space on your inner mind. Music for SciFi-lovers.

BFR011D – Genetix – Genetix Part 1 – Biscuit Factory Records – 11-02-2013

Halfstep rave tracks for escaping replicants. Dark and gloomy with distorted noise bass throbs cutting through the atmosphere this is the music you will hear on abandoned space colonies.

CHST025 – Cyrus & Distance – Titan / Rude – Chestplate – 11-02-2013

Wobbling dubstep tracks which do not fall into the bro step trap – thankfully. Brutal slomo halfstep for the purist crowd, in a good way.

MUVD004 – Biome – Black Widow – Macabre Unit Digital – 11-02-2013

More ritual dance music for the digital dubstep natives. Basslines diving up from the deepest aquatic sea crossing with valium spiced slow motion drum patterns and swinging percussion lines straight from the digital jungle. Highlights in subterranean bass low fields.

NKD004 – Breach & Dark Sky – The Click / Fallout – Naked Naked – 11-02-2013

Breach and Dark Sky join forces for two advanced bass music anthems. Whereas the a side, The Click, clearly shows Dark Sky‘s signature bass and rhythm skills, Fallout on the flipside is more on Breach‘s turf, combining a warm and organic bassline with swinging drums and housey vocals for a quality garage house track. First class material on both sides.

ARTKL006D – Perverse – Tesla – Artikal Music UK – 11-02-2013

Two hypnotic halfstep shakers in the purest sense, accompanied by a more than beautiful ambient track bathing in lush synths and chord progressions. Nice.

LB014 – Fuuku – Manata – Lucky Beard Rec – 05-02-2013

Reggae infused halftime dubstep, which doesn‘t sound cliche or too oldschool. On the flipside Digi G‘Alessio remixes the track to a wonky stuttering digital cut-up – think early Funkstörung meets Mala.

About whatpeoplesay.com

Whatpeoplesay is a blog project centering around all kinds of actual electronic and alternative music. Whatpeoplesay has been started in February 2011 by certain people from whatpeopleplay.com and wordandsound.net as a playground to share more thoughts and information about the music we love. We at Whatpeopleplay and Wordandsound are otherwise managing a downloadstore called whatpeopleplay.com and a business to business (wholesale) distribution called wordandsound.net. With both we try to serve music devotees and record shops around the world with high quality music since 1999. Feel invited to take part in this. We´re sure there´s even more to say about the music both we and you like. It´s all an open, developing process and we have, at this time, just started yet. Help us getting the word out by contributing your taste and opinion on our favorite topics. Let us know how we do, how you like what we say and if you like: tell us what you have to say.
