Superdefekt’s Roundup of the last weeks entries in Dubstep, Halfstep, Nustep & UK Garage

Next selection for week 8 with new releases by Benjamin Damage, Ejeca, Clouds and more.

MB010D – Celsius – Thought As Much – Moda Black – 18-02-2013

Nifty Nu Garage tracks delving deep into warm and deep bass waves. Contain enough emotions as well as thriving beats to make the peak time dancefloor smile.

GMR015 – Queenie – And Every – Greenmoney Recordings – 18-02-2013

Class A garage house from the Greenmoney stable. Enriching the 2step formula with just enough post dubstep flavors to make this a peak time hit.

NR011 – Various Artists – Technology EP – Nasha Records – 18-02-2013

Compilation of five destined floor rollers from the likes of Nuphlo, Naz and Nasha Experience. Jumping from bass centric halfsteppers to more tech influeneced rides this is some solid collection.

50WEAPONSCD12 – Benjamin Damage – Heliosphere – 50 Weapons – 22-02-2013

Benjamin Damage‘s first true solo album after last years release together with Doc Daneeka shows him as a true master of techno music. Seamlessly changing from loop style stompers a la Sandwell District or, to keep it more classic, Jeff Mills, to atmospheric electronica excursions in the style of early Black Dog Productions this full length album is one hell of a ride – and a beautiful one too. Highly recommended.

CHEAP072 – Detboi – Sliding Floors – Cheap Thrills – 24-02-2013

Detboi‘s album shows his masterful skills in crafting an advanced form of UK Funky. Drawing in influences from techno to hip hop to garage as well as halfsteppin‘ dubstep this is one varied ride which doesn‘t get dull. Top.

SUKI011 – Last Magpie – 1995 – Losing Suki – 25-02-2013

Four tracks of next level house music, deeply rooted in the UK bass tradition. From house to garage to slowmotion post dubstep there is something for everyone. Nice one.

HF038 – Locked Groove – Heritage EP – Hotflush Recordings – 25-02-2013

Showing his diversity Locked Groove surprises with latenight techno rollers as well as Kerri Chandleresque deephouse or Blade Runner-reminiscent SciFi textures. An EP as versatile as it is convincing.

AIM010 – Fold – Slime EP – Aim – 27-02-2013

More quality music from George FitzGerald‘s ManMakeMusic label, diving deeper into deephouse influenced house territory – but of course with more than a splice of UK bass music ingredients. Very very good.

NONPLUS023 – SCB -Think And Change LP Sampler 2 – Nonplus Records – 25-02-2013

Next part of the Nonplus Records label compilation series – this time they are on a techno tip. Scuba provides one dark and deep Berghain mainfloor contender under his SCB moniker while Basic Soul Unit takes a more experimental approach for his deeply satisfying acid track. Top notch.

WO002 – Ejeca – Frequency EP – W&O Street Tracks – 25-02-2013

Four tracks somewhere between UK garage and new jersey deephouse. Quality from beginning to end here proving that Ejeca are beneath the up and coming talents this year. Recommended.

RAMP054 – Clouds – USB Island – Ramp Recordings – 18-02-2013

Six tracks of refreshingly experimental dubstep, influenced by folk and electronica as well as industrial music. Very good. And the remixes by Gerry Read in his beloved leftfield techno manner, Tomutonttu in an jazzy electronica mood and Amen Ra taking some experimental bass music approach add to the experience. Recommended.

VSE04 – Samoyed – Sloe Eyes – VASE – 18-02-2013

SloeEyes on the a-side is a surprisingly straight forward bass house track, Guts on the flip goes down the wonky beat juggle route Samoyed is more known for. Quality on both sides.

HAR138 – Flash Hubbard – Three / Go EP – Haunted Audio Recordings – 21-02-2013

Percussion driven post dubstep rollers of the darker kind, full of haunting harmonies and moody atmospheres. Adding to that the Luthor remix takes a more rhythm centric dancefloor approach. Pretty nice.

About whatpeoplesay.com

Whatpeoplesay is a blog project centering around all kinds of actual electronic and alternative music. Whatpeoplesay has been started in February 2011 by certain people from whatpeopleplay.com and wordandsound.net as a playground to share more thoughts and information about the music we love. We at Whatpeopleplay and Wordandsound are otherwise managing a downloadstore called whatpeopleplay.com and a business to business (wholesale) distribution called wordandsound.net. With both we try to serve music devotees and record shops around the world with high quality music since 1999. Feel invited to take part in this. We´re sure there´s even more to say about the music both we and you like. It´s all an open, developing process and we have, at this time, just started yet. Help us getting the word out by contributing your taste and opinion on our favorite topics. Let us know how we do, how you like what we say and if you like: tell us what you have to say.
