THIS WEEK IN BASS – WEEK 12

Superdefekt's Roundup of the last weeks entries in Dubstep, Techno, Halfstep, Nustep, UK Garage & House Selection for week 12 with new releases by T Polar,V.I.V.E.K., Komon & Appleblim and more. PIPS021 - Komon & Appleblim - Gas Jam / Silencio - Apple Pips - 25-03-2013 Finally two fresh tunes by Apple Pips label head Appleblim, here in collaboration with Komon. Gas Jam is a mighty fine 21st century garage house tune, swinging from beginning to end, Silencio on the flipside a more laid back broken beat affair. Solid quality on both sides. OSMUK027EP - Kryptic Minds - Namaste EP - Osiris Music UK - 25-03-2013 Proper halfstep darkness from Kryptic Minds on four tracks with a distinct cyber oriental feel in rhythm patterns and harmonies. Not to forget those metallic techno overtones, which by now are characteristic for the Kryptic Minds sound. No surprises here, but also no letdown for fans. K7309EP1 - Close - Beam Me Up feat. Charlene Soraia & Scuba - !K7 Records - 18-03-2013 Aus Music‘s Will Saul debuts on !K7 Records as Close. Utilizing the help of Scuba and singer Charlene Soraia he comes up with a solid vocal heavy techno house pop song with slight oriental overtones. KING018 - Alphabets Heaven - Siamese Burn - King Deluxe - 18-03-2013 Six pieces of atmospheric post dubstep music, moving from straighter bass music patterns to wonked out downbeat escapades and back again. Less aimed at the dancefloor this is could be called some sort of armchair bass music. IMSL5 - Druid Cloak - Athene‘s Hollow - Infinite Machine - 18-03-2013 Bass music of the sinister kind. Tempo wise operating mostly in the halfstep field this nevertheless has nothing to do with cyber metallic dread rave tunes but incorporates a more organic feel, damp with the beauty of gloomy early mornings. Flake 032 - Andy Jay & S-Tee & Akira - See You Move - Ice Cream Records - 18-03-2013 UK garage house of the traditional sort. Moving from uplifting 2steppy tunes to stomping speed garage or Notting Hill Carnival approved UK Funky to more minimal, bass centric tracks every niche is touched - but always with a decent amount of female vocals. EMB015 - Broodlings - Rough Landings / Two, Three - Embassy Recordings - 25-03-2013 Two times hypnotic high speed electro bass, dancefloor ready on the a-side and leaning more to the experimental, atmospheric kind on side b. Both tracks get the seal of approval for quality production. MM062 - Osmiroid - Osmiroid - Mordant Music - 25-03-2013 Dark and disturbing aural collages of epic length, more like lost soundtracks for forgotten radioplays of David Lynch or the twisted mind of similar auteurs. Uneasy listening for the open minded. CS006 - T Polar - Feetwork EP - Champion Sound Music - 25-03-2013 Collection of various bass music styles from pad heavy atmospheric future garage tunes to minimal and syncopated bass line swingers to moody burial-lesque latenight tracks. Nothing earth shattering here, but solid work. SYSTM001 - V.I.V.E.K. - Asteroids - System Music - 25-03-2013 Super slow, nearly motionless bass anthems, odes to the night, payers in worship of the sub frequencies. Featuring the as somber as beautiful vocal talent of Mel Dymond on song two and three both tracks even remind of Massive Attack‘s darkest hours. Pretty good.
